The Yahoo Social APIs are divided into the following categories:
Social Directory API - This API provides profile (identity) and
connection (relationship) information about Yahoo users. A profile
includes data such as the user's email address, gender, and location.
The connections of a user identify other users such as friends and
business associates. To form a connection, both users must confirm the
relationship. For example, if Joe wants to add Jane to his list of
friends, he asks that she be added and she has to approve. Typically,
connections permits more information sharing between the users than
Contacts API - Contacts are analogous to the users listed in an
address book. In contrast to a connection, a contact can be created
without the approval of both users. For example, Joe can add Sam to
his list of contacts without Sam's permission.
