The Yahoo landing page contains a news carousel which serves as the visual focal point of the page. This widget is the center of the landing page hierarchy which in turn serves as the launching pad for a majority of users entire Yahoo experience. There is a serious UX issue with potentially the most critical button cluster on this entire page.
When the sliding images in the carousel move to a third line this widget shifts moving all content below that line 14px down. This in turn causes the arrow buttons to shift down enough where the users will no longer be clicking the arrow, they will be clicking the open page target area. This flaw is especially glaring hen the users are quickly clicking through the stories and are not able to shift their mouse in time.
The continuation of this behavior will leave a bad taste in the users mouth which may in turn cause them to abandon Yahoo completely.
