Error Response: Access Denied (403)

One of my pipes is returning an error: Response: Access Denied (403). It is the most basic pipe possible, it uses "Fetch Feed" to "Output" this feed: http://www.celiac.com/glutenfreemall/rss.php and here it is: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=ac80c1a719b801b02606579c8c2e180b

I am the server admin, and have looked at Mod Security, which I don't believe is causing this, and I do also run PHP Suhosin, which might possibly cause this, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

  • You can access that feed using the YQL module and the query

select * from rss where url='http://www.celiac.com/glutenfreemall/rss.php'

  • Using that I am still getting the 403 access denied...

  • or this errror: Error fetching. Response: Bad Request (400)

  • I did get the YQL to run in the edit source...not sure why it finally worked after about 10 tries, but then the output shows only "null": http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=ac80c1a719b801b02606579c8c2e180b

  • 10:37 GMT I'm seeing 100 results. Pipes has a 15 minute caching time, so although you changed your pipe the cache may still have been using the output (or lack of) from the previous version. Are you still seeing problems?

  • I just looked at it and am seeing "null" with nothing else: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=ac80c1a719b801b02606579c8c2e180b

  • gluten-free are you still not seeing results?

I see 100 on your pipe info page.

  • As mentioned, the output for me is "0" in the pipe edit, and "Null" in the view: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=ac80c1a719b801b02606579c8c2e180b

I have no idea why, and others who use this pipe are having the same issue. Before they saw the 403 error, and now we see Null. Even my server logs were showing a 403 access denied error during testing with the feed the way I had it before. I have 10 other Yahoo Pipes and none have this issue.

I have no idea how you are seeing 100 results...sorry.

  • I just checked again, and now I see the pipe...I have not idea why it would suddenly work now, but it would not surprise me if this state is temporary... Scott

  • Also, I don't see how to hook together 2 YQLs to a single pipe output...any ideas? Thank you!

  • Use the Union module.

  • I am still having this issue...I've tried everything. My RSS seems fine, but my server throws a 403 Access Denied error to Yahoo Pipes most of the time, but not all of the time. I've check my server's setup, like Mod Security, PHP Suhosin, etc., but found nothing. Any last ideas?

  • Your link doubles up on'http://'. Remove that and the link works.

  • The last link I posted was just a test console for Yahoo Pipes on my feed. I posted it to demonstrate the 403 Access Denied issue. I am still having that issue in my pipes.

  • Sorry, but every time I check your feed I see results. I don't see how I can help.

  • Yes, it is a very frustrating issue. I see only "null" and when I check my server logs I see a 403 Access Denied error from Yahoo Pipes: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=ac80c1a719b801b02606579c8c2e180b

  • You keep referring to a link to a web page:

    http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=ac80c1a719b801b02606579c8c2e180b

I don't understand why your server should be trying to access that page. The link to the RSS feed for your pipe is

    http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=ac80c1a719b801b02606579c8c2e180b&_render=rss

For a JSON source it would be

    http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=ac80c1a719b801b02606579c8c2e180b&_render=json

  • So the answer would be that the render=rss shows only the rss title and then "Pipes Output" only when this happens. I clicked on this once: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=ac80c1a719b801b02606579c8c2e180b&_render=rss and it displayed perfectly, then I reloaded it several times and it broke with the "Pipes Output".

If I view http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=ac80c1a719b801b02606579c8c2e180b it will sometimes display perfectly, but a lot of the time it breaks and shows "null".

When it breaks, my server registers a 403 Access Denied error.

  • I'm getting 403 errors for my pipes too. They have been working flawlessly until recently. I wonder if Yahoo is under serious strain for some reason... and I'm being locked out earlier than before. My pipes a run very rarely so it isn't me causing any load !!!

  • Yes, although they've been very patient and have responded here several times, they clearly don't comprehend the issue. I've said several times that the problem is intermittent, yet they mention that they see my feeds with no issues. I just saw it the first time I loaded it, then I refreshed and got the "null" and see the server error.

Again, other feeds on this server are working fine (they use other software like Invision Power Board), but it is only this one that triggers the 403 error on my server. A search of this forum shows lots of others who have had similar issues, yet they don't seem to be able to help me.

  • i'm guessing it could be something because of: Cache-Control: max-age=60, private, proxy-revalidate

  • Thank you for the reply. I commented out that header in my .htaccess file and still got the "null" 403 error. For the record I am running multiple RSS feeds on the same server, although they use different software, for example: http://www.celiac.com/articlerss.php and http://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/rss/forums/6-celiac-disease-coping-with/

and they use the same Cache-Control: max-age=60, private, proxy-revalidate header, and they never have this issue. The RSS feed with this issue is an OSCommerce module I added to my store, and it never had this issue until about 6 months ago, when I moved the site to a new server. Not sure if all this extra info helps, but you never know.

My thought was Mod Security or PHP Suhosin, but I've searched those logs and can't see anything happening. The only clue lies in my Apache logs for the site which show the 403 Access Denied error from Yahoo Pipes.
