http://social.yahooapis.com - Will be right back error

Hi,

I'm using a php package called HybridAuth for handling the oauth authentication for Yahoo and it was working fine until last week (last successfully logged in at 3/15/2014) but it's no longer working.

The actual handshake and login with Yahoo is still working but when it's trying to lookup the user profile, it's running into error mainly because the api is returning error html page, which indicates that service is not available.

The API is accessing http://social.yahooapis.com/v1/me/guid?format=json... after the successful hanshke and login.

If I go to the http://social.yahooapis.com page, it says "Will be right back...Thank you for your patience. Our engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue." and it's been showing this page for last several days.

Does anyone know what's going on?

  • I am having the same issue and using asp.net c# for yahoo. I am able to get the request token but when request calls the "https://api.login.yahoo.com/oauth/v2/get_token" to get access token then it return 404 in debug mode and the GET request (from debug mode get the request url) displays this message "Will be right back...Thank you for your patience. Our engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue"

  • I'm seeing the same issue

    http://social.yahooapis.com/v1/me/guid?

returns an html response saying: Will be right back... Thank you for your patience. Our engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue.

  • This service is down from more than one week, are you guys planning to fix the problem soon? ETA?

One big feature on our project is stuck to be released due to this problem....

    -2
  • Okay... I'm "happy" to hear that I'm not the only one having this problem. I didn't find anyone else complaining about this and I was about to lose my mind because I thought it was some problem that was specific to my account or something :)

I hope Yahoo fixes this soon.... because this is pretty terrible SLA and Yahoo already lost credibility due to having this problem for more than a week now...

  • Hi all, I 'm changed URI protocol http to https (https://social.yahooapis.com/v1/me/guid) and resolved it.

    3
  • @africa356 THANK YOU! that worked for me too!!!!

    -2
  • @africa356 Thank you! it's working for me as well with your help. I want to mark this thread as RESOLVED but I can't seem to update my original post anymore. Hope this is now working for everyone as well!

  • Changing to https instead of http also fixed it for me. Wish yahoo would have responded or at least warned us they were dropping support for their non secure api endpoint...

  • I am using the socialauth-net library, and there I can not select between http and https, what can I do?

    -1
  • I have found the way to correct it. When you download the socialauth-net library there is also the source code for the core component. You can change it to use https instead of http, and recompile it.

Now it works for me too.

I am have the same problem. I have tried all the suggested things above but it is still there. Please help me.

  • Thank you. Changed URI protocol http to https (https://social.yahooapis.com/v1/user) and everything started working again.

    -3
  • Hey, everybody who fixed the issue with migrating to "https" - please re-check today, Today it does not work! Returns "403 forbidden"...

    2
  • it's still working fine for me!

    -2
  • if you still have the problem, make sure to change to http secured protocol. For example, change: http://mail.yahooapis.com/ws/mail/v1.1/ to: https://mail.yahooapis.com/ws/mail/v1.1/

  • I have the Same issue Iam already using https but still getting same error message ?? https://api.login.yahoo.com/oauth/v2/get_token

Any idea how to resolve this issue ?

    1
  • i also still have issue by replacing http to https i.e https is not working for me

    0
  • We're also seeing 403 errors, with or without https and https://social.yahooapis.com/v1/user/{guid}/profile requests

    1
  • Same here 403 forbidden errors, with o https://social.yahooapis.com/v1/user/{guid}/profile requests Any one get it solved?

    0
  • https://social.yahooapis.com/v1/user/{guid}/profile

{guid} - must be exact value . user ID

    2
  • Switching the protocol to HTTPS worked for me, but I have no faith in its reliability based on other responses in this thread.

Related, see this blog post: http://yahoodevelopers.tumblr.com/post/75633763287/yahoo-contacts-and-profile-apis-move-to-https

Though, I do not see why this should have broken only recently considering the blog post claims it will require HTTPS connections on Feb 28th, 2014. Yahoo must do a better job of outreach and communication for its developer community.

  • Hi i have the same problem. I tried many variants, but i haven't any success. I implement https://github.com/yahoo/yos-social-php5 sdk and it's work now. I get the contact list. But I encountered another problem: for getting contact profile picture i need to make another call to them and is not ok. Because for 1000 contacts it make 1000 request. If you find a solution to fix the old sdk implementation, please post it.

  • http://social.yahooapis.com and https://social.yahooapis.com/ is not working.

When will these be resolved ???

  • Any update on this Yahoo engineers???

  • I have 2 sites: zucando.com and it works fine. I use the same code for alwaysriding.co.uk but it does not work =))

Zucando: http status code 200 alwaysriding.co.uk http status code 403 (for bidden)

    0
  • I have also used this URL ('https://social.yahooapis.com/v1/user/guid/contacts') but return me empty array anybody can guide me.

    0
  • This is ridiculous how can the same code work for 1 website and not another.

Yahoo engineers, can you give us a guideline some help as to fixing this issue???

I found this website and when I test the Yahoo address book it works fine. How can this work on this website and I'm using the same Yahoo API and it doesn't work for me???

    https://www.cloudsponge.com/test-drive

    0
  • I think there are a few problems related to linux hosting and windows hosting.

For zucando.com, I am using a share hosting with linux and it works fine when I try to login with Yahoo.

For alwaysriding.co.uk, this site is using the windows hosting and it did not work when I made it with the same things on zucando.com. Very weird and can not explain...

Hope Yahoo engineers can help us to answer all questions here.

  • TLS/SSL CONNECTIONS REQUIRED FOR CALLS TO THE YAHOO SOCIAL DIRECTORY APIS

To safeguard user data and authenticate API calls, we are limiting all access to the Yahoo Social Directory APIs to secure SSL connections only. No user data will be accessible over HTTP from this date onwards. Thus, your applications must use SSL connections when making requests to https://social.yahooapis.com or https://query.yahooapis.com to access Yahoo contacts/profile data.

    -4
  • What about https requests that fail? please elaborate on how to access the social directory endpoints.

    0
  • Yes, same issue here; I've been using SSL (https://) pages but still get the same issue.

    0
  • Not working for me too…

Oauth seems to work but using xoauth_yahoo_guid in the following request

    https://social.yahooapis.com/v1/user/XYGUIDHERE/profile?format=json

gives a 403 error, You don't have permission to access this URL

Since there is a oauth timeout maybe some servers have a clock problem, or maybe the API is just broken…

  • what the fuck happend to yahoo api ? sukcing like a wild bitch huh.

    3
  • Sorry, Forbidden. You don't have permission to access this URL on this server.

    1
  • Yahoo! api problem seems get solved.

Contact list can be retrieved successfully just now.

    0
  • Not here. It's still throwing 403s on the HTTPS version of the REST Contacts API URL. I've tried making the call against YQL but that throws 401s.

Silly, silly Yahoo. Can you please sort your APIs out?

    0
  • I've moved my contact importer from the rest api with oauth1. to YQL with oauth2 - and now it finally works. I'd bet it was the oauth2 that made the difference.

    0
  • HTTPS URL solves 404 Not found. However, I get 403 Forbidden when accessing REST API occasionally based on my server location (geo IP). US location gets through, whilst Non-US location gets 403.

    1
  • I'm getting 403 Forbidden from ws109.socdir.ir2.yahoo.com uncompressed/chunked Sun Apr 13 03:11:19 PDT 2014

Is it possible that not all servers are updated properly?

    1
  • I am also facing this problem from past couple of weeks; Here are the steps I have followed:

    1. Registered my application with yahoo to get Consumer Key and Consumer secret.
    2. Generated the request_token using https://api.login.yahoo.com/oauth/v2/get_request_token?...
    3. After receiving the oauth_token, executed "https://api.login.yahoo.com/oauth/v2/request_auth?oauth_token=..."
    4. Generated the request token https://api.login.yahoo.com/oauth/v2/get_token?oauth_consumer_key=...

I am trying to get the user profile by passing guid as "https://social.yahooapis.com/v2/user/{guid}/profile?format=json", but I am getting Will be right back...Thank you for your patience. Our engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue." and it's been showing this page for last several days.

Thanks for your help in advance.

    Thanks,

  • The situation we are facing (when one site works stable and other one does not) can be explained assuming Yahoo services clustered routing, Routing criteria is "location" and possible other criterias. Thus, one site requests can be handled by "Yahoo Server 1" (Zimbra version x.1, API version x.1), another site requests can be handled by "Yahoo Server 2" (Zimbra version x.2, API version x.2). Analyzing the circumstances, seems US sites are more lucky to get Yahoo social services than EU.

  • Same problem, the sync with Yahoo did not work anymore... The URL https://social.yahooapis.com/v1/user/xxxxx/contacts?view=sync&rev=4096" respond "Yahoo! - 403 Forbidden"... Please correct this issue...

  • Do any Yahoo engineers actually check this developer forum???

Would definitely like to get some insight on what is causing this issue and how it can be fixed!!!

I would think 48+ replies from people complaining would push this up to "high importance" from the Yahoo team. Do we need to get 100+ replies before someone at Yahoo acknowledges this issue???

    3
  • I am facing the same issue. Just started to integrate yahoo api to fetch the contact list. I have tried all possible ways. but when I try to retrieve profile information or contact list I get "Thank you for your patience. Our engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue." . After reading all replies I am loosing my patients.

  • Hello,

I'm the one who created this discussion and I'm sorry to hear that so many people are still having problems. I was frustrated as well and that's why I was the first one to report this problem.

However, it's been working for me ever since I switched to https protocol.

I hope this issue will be resolved for everyone soon and I hope Yahoo can at least update the page response to other than "Thank you for your patience. Our engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue." because that message has been displaying for over a month now. They should at least provide some possible explanation of error or instructions/steps to resolve them rather than some message that doesn't even hold true (I'm referring to 'working quickly to resolve' part).

  • The issue could not be reproduced in USA (MA). However it is still there for EU region (Ukraine). Any request to social.yahooapis.com end up with 403.

Details: Works well from areas where social.yahooapis.com resolves as any-ycpi-uno.aycpi.b.yahoodns.net which has the following IPs: 206.190.57.60 216.115.101.179 98.139.199.204 216.115.101.178 98.139.199.205 206.190.57.61

Fail to work from areas where social.yahooapis.com resolves as eu-ycpi-uno.aycpi.b.yahoodns.net which has the following IPs: 66.196.66.212 66.196.66.213 217.12.13.40 217.12.13.41 66.196.66.156 66.196.66.157

    Please fix.

  • Hello everyone, this is the code with which I solved, the trusted code to use if yahooapis returns 403 forbidden:

    Reference: https://developer.yahoo.com/yql/guide/yql-code-examples.html#yql_php https://github.com/danzisi/YQLQueryYahooapis

  • Hi Donna,

Can you use the YQL to get the user's contact list to show from Yahoo email?

    Thank you!

  • Hello everyone, Yahoo social services issues are resolved for our client today! In both US and EU regions. Please check yours!

  • Hello,

I've been following this topic for a while, so thank you for the updates, it was really helpful considering the little information Yahoo provided on this matter. So I owe you an update from our side on this.

For us looks like it is all working ok now, we have tested a few days back and it didn't worked but yesterday when we tested it did and today as well.

For our solutions social.yahooapis.com resolves as eu-ycpi-uno.aycpi.b.yahoodns.net

If it doesn't work, and it did before, I'd recommend to ensure the protocol for social.yahooapis.com it is changed to HTTPS: https://social.yahooapis.com/v1/user

    Have a nice day,

    Anca

    1
  • Works for me now, did not a few days ago.

    Mine changed from: eu-ycpi-uno.aycpi.b.yahoodns.net 66.196.66.156

Guess somebody finally woke up at yahoo.
