Closed Captioning Support for Video Apps

If you have video in your app, you will want to take a close look at this new feature in our developer kit.

We expect many of you are already well-aware that the FCC amended Part 79 of Title 47 of the Code of Federal Regulations to require that by January 1, 2014 video programming owners, distributors, and providers must comply with their obligations to provide and enable closed captioning of Internet protocol-delivered video programming and all digital apparatuses designed to receive or play back video programming must be capable of displaying closed-captioned video programming in compliance with these new provisions. The rule changes were enacted pursuant to the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 which directed the FCC to revise its regulations to require closed captioning of IP-delivered video programming exhibited on televisions.

In order to facilitate support for closed captioning of videos within applications built using the Yahoo Connected TV Application Development Kit (ADK), we are releasing additional components and documentation. The documentation and module is accessible using the following links:

Documentation available on the Yahoo Developer Network

Module on GitHub

These documents and links have everything you need to update your app to support closed captioning. The Yahoo Connected TV Team is here to answer your questions. Please post any closed captioning related questions to this forum thread.
