GeoDjango

I've been playing around with GeoDjango as of late, and found that with MySQL a point in the world would bring up 4 countries. With PostgreSQL, it worked as advertised. Does anyone have any experience with spatial databases, with an understanding of why a query as "polygon contains point" brings up 4 countries? Very bizsrre indeed.
