Question about Data Availability

Hello,

I am a professor in an undergraduate IT program and I am orchestrating a project with some students dealing with accessing remote data sources via API's.

My question is as follows. Can a person query all the fantasy leagues in the database to create applications? Or, **must ** a member of a fantasy league give authorization to external software to access the data only for that particular league?

The work we would like to do involves analyzing across all leagues and multiple sports. I need to know if that is possible. I greatly appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks,

Howard

  • It's not a straight forward yes or no answer.

I think what you would like is for a general API call to retrieve all data - which does not exist. You have to specify the league id in the API call and therefore know the league id or some other piece of information (e.g. user is logged in) to obtain the league id.

However, there are public leagues where you can pull the data without having a user grant access. Again, you need to know the league id to access these though (I think - I don't know any other way).

You can see some examples on Yahoo's leader board.
