Viewability Goals

Highly-viewable inventory is limited and more expensive. Viewability-based goal optimization enables advertisers to meet viewable impression goals, without disproportionately hurting lines that target inventory using restrictive viewability rate targeting.

The platform supports hard and soft viewability goals for display lines:

  • A soft viewability goal is defined by a viewability rate threshold and no goal. If no goal type is selected, the platform treats the specified viewability rate threshold as an average that it must achieve but not exceed.
  • A hard viewability goal is defined by a viewability rate threshold and a goal. If the line is defined by a goal type, the platform treats the specified viewability rate threshold as a hard threshold that it must meet.

Viewability goals require that you specify a viewability-based targeting parameter. A viewability target specifies a viewability rate threshold target for the ad placements targeted by the line. If enabled, the line will explicitly target sites with inventory that has historically delivered viewability rates that match or exceed the specified threshold. To learn more about viewability-base targeting, see Viewability.

The DSP supports hard and soft viewability goals for display lines only.

Soft Viewability Goal

A soft viewability goal is defined is defined by viewability rate threshold target but no goal.

The DSP bidder treats the viewability rate threshold as an average that it can achieve but not exceed.

Impressions will have viewability rates above and below the line’s specified viewability percentage, but the average will be achieved. The platform balances line delivery and the measured viewability rates to average out to specified viewability rate threshold.

To configure a soft viewability goal:

  1. Specify a billing method in the Properties page.
  2. Choose the None option in the Goal Type drop-down list.
  3. Specify a target in the Targeting page.

Hard Viewability Goal

A hard viewability goal is defined by goal and a viewability rate threshold target.

The DSP bidder treats the specified viewability rate threshold as a hard threshold. The platform serves ad placement opportunities that meet the targeted viewability rate.

To configure a hard viewability goal:

  1. Specify a billing method in the Properties page.
  2. Specify a goal in the Properties page.
  3. Specify a target in the Targeting page.
