About Deals

From the Inventory > Exchanges page, you can drill down to deals available under the different supply sources. DSP supports the following types of deals:

  • Shared Deals. For these deals, publishers offer supply on an exchange to all interested buyers. If an advertiser line targets a shared deal and wins, then the winning shared deal ID is captured for deal ID reporting.
  • Spot Buy Deals. For these deals, publishers offer supply to a single buyer, or a limited number of specific buyers. If an advertiser line targets a spot buy deal and wins, then the winning spot buy deal ID is captured for deal ID reporting.

Note

The deal ID is not captured unless the winning bid meets or exceeds the publisher’s deal ID floor price.

Typically, deals are negotiated offline between publisher and advertiser networks. The network admin can set up and share (under Exchange targeting settings) the seller exchange platform’s deal ID (of negotiated deal) with specific advertisers on the DSP platform to allow the advertisers to target the inventory. It is then up to the advertiser to target the Exchange(s) with or without the deal ID.

An advertiser’s line can participate only in the auctions of the Exchanges that the advertiser’s line targets. An advertiser line can be set up to target a specific deal and one or more Exchanges.

DSP sends a response that includes the highest bid.

Shared Deals

For shared deals, advertiser lines that target the specific deal as well as advertiser lines that do not target the specific deal, but meet all other targeting criteria are eligible to participate in the auction.

When a bid opportunity comes in with a specific deal ID, an advertiser line that:

Targets another deal ID is not eligible to participate in this auction. Targets this deal ID is eligible to participate in the auction. Does not target any specific deal, but passes all other targeting criteria is eligible to participate in the auction.

For example:

For a bid request from… If advertiser line targets… Advertiser campaign… Because…
Yahoo Ad Exchange with shared deal ID 123 Yahoo Ad Exchange private marketplace deal 123 Can bid The advertiser’s line targets deal ID 123.
Yahoo Ad Exchange with shared deal ID 123 Yahoo Ad Exchange private marketplace deal 456 Can’t bid The advertiser’s line targets deal targets deal ID 456.
Yahoo Ad Exchange with no deal Yahoo Ad Exchange private marketplace deal 123 Can’t bid The advertiser line targets deal ID 123.
Yahoo Ad Exchange with shared deal ID 123 (if the deal is available for the open auction) No deal, but many Exchanges including Yahoo Ad Exchange Can bid The advertiser line does not target any specific deal, but targets Yahoo Ad Exchange open auction and passes all other targeting criteria.

Spot Buy Deals

For spot buy deals, only lines associated with advertisers eligible to participate in the deal are considered in the auction. When a bid opportunity comes in with a specific deal ID, an eligible advertiser line that:

  • Targets another deal ID is not eligible to participate in this auction.
  • Targets this deal ID is eligible to participate in this auction.

For example:

For a bid request from… If advertiser line targets… Advertiser campaign… Because…
