Bulk Uploads with Excel

Use the bulk upload functionality to create and manage up to 1000 new campaigns, packages, lines, and bid multipliers per day using DSP in combination with Excel. On the DSP side, you access the Bulk Upload features from the Actions menu on the Campaigns page.

Important

Not all DSP campaign and line configurations support Excel uploads at this time. For information on what you can and can’t upload, check out Bulk Upload Data.

High Level Steps

Follow these general steps to bulk upload new or edited campaigns and lines to DSP using Excel.

  1. Launch DSP and download the Excel template and Help File.
  2. Create and manage your campaigns using the different Excel worksheets.
  3. When you’re ready, relaunch DSP and import your changes.

Download the Excel Template

If you are a new advertiser with no campaign, package or line data, you can download a new blank Excel template and start Excel-based campaign, package and line management from scratch. Advertisers with existing DSP campaigns, packages and lines may find it easier to download a template that’s already prepoulated with their data.

Download a New Blank Excel Template

If you are a new advertiser with no existing campaign, package or line data, or if you have existing data but want to start from scratch, download a new, blank Excel (.xlsx) template file. On this sheet, you’ll enter all of the campaign, package and line data you want to upload to DSP.

To download a new blank Excel template:

  1. From the Campaigns page, select Upload File (XLSX) from the Actions menu.

  1. On the Import Excel File page, click the Download Excel (.xlsx) template file link.

You see a blank template file called Bulk_Import_Template in the lower-left corner of your browser window. You will open that template, populate it with data, and use it to upload your new campaigns and lines to DSP.

Download a Template Prepopulated with Data

If you have existing lines, packages and campaigns in DSP, you can download an Excel template that’s prepopulated with your DSP data.

To download a template prepopulated with data:

  1. From the Campaigns page, select the checkboxes for the DSP campaigns with which you want pre-populate the Excel template. To include all of your campaigns, select the checkbox in the upper-left corner above the list view.

  1. Select Download from the Actions menu.
You see the Export Excel File page.
  1. On the Export Excel File page, set whether you want all campaign data (campaigns, packages and lines), or just data at the campaign level. Click Campaigns, Packages & Lines, or Campaigns.

You are back on the Campaigns page.
  1. On the Campaigns page, select Check Status from the Actions menu.
You see the Check Status page.
  1. On the Check Status page, Downloads tab, locate your download file and click the Download button.

You see your prepopulated template file in the lower-left corner of your browser window. You will open that Excel template and edit your campaign and line data in Excel. You can also add new campaigns and lines to the Excel template.

  1. Click Done.

Download the Help Sheet

If you want use Excel to upload DSP app or site lists, audiences, devices, pixels, auction types, ads, user groups, contextuals, viewability, exchanges, ad positions, or locations, you will need to download the Help Sheet Excel file.

To download the help sheet:

  1. From the Campaigns page, select Upload File (XLSX) from the Actions menu.

  1. On the Import Excel File page, click the Download Help Sheet link.

In the lower-left corner of your browser window, you see an Excel help sheet template that includes data about any existing app lists, site lists, user groups, contextuals, audiences or pixels. If you don’t have any of these items set up, the template is blank and you’ll need to add data to it. Check out Bulk Upload Data for information on the types of data you can add to the help sheet.

Add or Edit Data

After downloading your Bulk_Import_Template Excel worksheet, you’re ready to add (or edit) your campaign, package and line data using Excel.

To add or edit campaign and line data:

  1. Locate and open the Bulk_Import_Template Excel worksheet.
  2. Add data to each of the worksheets (Campaigns, Packages and Lines). Check out Bulk Upload Data for details about supported data.
  3. Save the worksheet.

Add or Edit Help Sheet Data

After downloading the help sheet, you can optionally bulk upload any app and site lists, user groups, contextuals, audiences, or pixels from Excel to DSP.

To add or edit help sheet data:

  1. Locate and open the <Advertiser-Name>_<Account-Number>_Help_Sheet_<Date> Excel worksheet (also known as the Help Sheet).
  2. Add or edit data in the relevant worksheets (App-Site Lists, User Groups, Contextuals, Viewability, Audiences, and pixels). Check out Bulk Upload Data for details about supported data.
  3. Save the worksheet.

Upload your Excel Data to DSP

When you have downloaded the relevant Excel files and used them to create or edit campaigns, you’re ready to upload your new and edited campaigns, packages, lines, and help sheet data to DSP.

Note

You can use this process to upload both the Bulk Import Template and the Help File.

To upload your Excel data to DSP:

  1. From the Campaigns page, select Upload File (XLSX) from the Actions menu.
You see the Import Excel File page.
  1. On the Import Excel File page, drag and drop your Excel sheets to the drop zone; or click Choose a file to upload, select your Excel sheet, and click Open.
  2. Click Done to close the Import Excel File page.
You are back on the Campaigns page.
  1. On the Campaigns page, select Check Status from the Actions menu.

You see the Check Status page.

  1. On the Check Status page, Uploads tab, locate your Excel file.

  1. Do one of the following:
  • If you see a green Review button and the words “Completed successfully” below the button, your upload was successful and your data now appears in DSP. Click Done.
  • If you see an orange Review button and “Completed with errors,” see Troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting

If you follow the instructions to upload your Excel sheet and encounter an orange Review button and the words “Completed with errors” below the button, do the following:

  1. On the Check Status page, click the orange Review button.
You see your template file in the lower-left corner of the browser window.
  1. Open your template file and scroll all the way to the right until you see an “ErrorMessage” column. For example:

  1. Correct the error and try uploading your file again.
