Chapter 6. Free Non-Commercial YQL Table Usage

BOSS Geo Services, Placefinder and PlaceSpotter (formerly known as Placefinder) can be used for free by developers via our YQL tables. We have two YQL tables, geo.placefinder and geo.placemaker that are of most interest to developers.

YQL Sample Tables

The following are sample tables for geo.placefinder and geo.placemaker.

Note

The YQL tables for Placefinder and PlaceSpotter/Placemaker are rate limited to 2000 queries per day per table per APP ID and are intended for non-commercial usage.

Table Name: geo.placefinder

This table provides access to a geocoder and reverser geocoder. Inputs: The table can be queried by providing an address, place name or also a latitide/longitude. Please see the two samples below to get a better understanding of the use of the service.

The following sample YQL XML responses display results from the following YQL parameters:

Description: Obtain a latitude/longitude for the given place name: San Francisco.

Query: YQL Query - select * from geo.placefinder where text="sfo".

Description: Obtain a POI given a Latitude and Longitude (Reverse Geocoding).

Query: YQL Query - select * from geo.placefinder where text="37.416275,-122.025092" and gflags="R".

Table Name: geo.placemaker

This table provides access to a geo-entity extractor. Inputs: The table can be queried by providing textual content and location entities can be generated from the service. Please see the sample below to get a better understanding of the use of the service.

The following sample YQL XML responses display results from the following YQL parameters:

Description: Obtain a list of entities from a given piece of text.

Query: YQL Query - SELECT * FROM geo.placemaker WHERE documentContent = "They followed him to deepest Africa and found him there, in Timbuktu" AND documentType="text/plain".

BOSS Geo Parameters

The YQL tables support all values that are supported by the BOSS Geo services.
