Announcing Yahoo!’s X Award for the PayPal X Developer Challenge 2010

This past November, at Innovate 09, PayPal launched the PayPal X Developer Network, with a slew of APIs that take online payments technology to a global base of merchants, developers, entrepreneurs, and innovators. They also launched the PayPal X Developer Challenge. (The winning apps were later showcased at the spring Demo conference). YOS product and UED leader, Micah Laaker, one of over 1500 attendees at last year's inaugural event, wrote enthusiastically about his experience at Innovate.

Today PayPal announced their 2010 PayPal Developer Challenge. This year's challenge is bigger and better--and includes a $10,000 X Award provided by Yahoo! for the most useful and inventive integration of PayPal APIs with Yahoo!'s platform technologies.

Developer registration is now open. You'll need to log in to PayPal to get all the details. Register by August 4 and you have a shot at one of 10 iPads being given away. The top entries selected will be invited to exhibit their applications at the fall Innovate 2010 conference, which takes place Oct 26-27 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. We'll be there too! Yahoo! judges will be on hand to present the Yahoo! Developer Network X Award.

We're interested in apps that combine PayPal's open platform technologies and adaptive payments APIs with the Yahoo! Application Platform (YAP), our social platform APIs (YOS), as well as those that use YQL (the Yahoo! Query Language) to access and manipulate web data from multiple sources in combination with Paypal's transactions platform.

Wow us with apps that solve real world problems in creative new ways; that make it easier or simpler to get transactions done; that enable transactions in new contexts; that create valuable experiences for consumers, or help us create new business opportunities around the world. Entrants in this category must agree to our Yahoo! Developer Network Terms of Use and the Yahoo! Query Language Terms of Use. For complete contest details, including the Official Contest Rules, please log in to PayPal.

Indian hackers, come find us at Open Hack Bengaluru on July 24-25, and we can talk more about your ideas for combining Yahoo!'s social aggregation tools and vast audience with PayPal's transaction-enabling technology.

Look forward to seeing your brilliant apps and hacks.
