Comparing Data Delivery Methods

This section describes the different ways site owners can provide structured data to SearchMonkey to enhance user search results.

XML-Based Atom Feeds

Site owners can submit structured data to SearchMonkey through Atom feeds with embedded dataRSS elements. Site owners submit their feeds through Yahoo! Site Explorer.

Providing content as an Atom feed has the following advantages:

  • Atom feeds are an industry standard

  • Many tools are available to create feeds

  • If you are already creating feeds for your site, it's easy to reuse existing feed infrastructure

  • Setting up feeds generally does not require any front-end page changes

However, feeds require that you set up a process to ensure that they are fresh and valid. Setting up feeds may require work on the backend.

For more information on how to create and send feeds to SearchMonkey, see the Submitting Feeds section.
