Shutdown Notice: The Audio Search service will be discontinued and shut down after October 15, 2008. Web service queries made after that date will return an error code.

Yahoo! Audio Search Web Services provide access to music data and audio files using structured and unstructured queries.

How Do I Get Started?

  1. Read the online documentation and FAQs.

  2. Get an Application ID

    To access Audio Search APIs from Yahoo! Search web services, you will need to get an application ID. Like a browser's User-Agent string, the Application ID uniquely identifies your application and has no effect on rate limiting.

  3. Download the SDK

    The development kit includes BSD licensed examples and libraries for various languages: Perl, Python and PHP, Java, JavaScript, and Flash.

Audio Web Services

Overview

These services allow you to get data about songs, artists and albums, as well as URLs to find songs and podcasts on the Internet. They are:

  • Artist Search

    Lists names and some data about specific artists.

  • Album Search

    Given a combination of artist and album queries, provides information about albums.

  • Song Search

    Given a combination of artist, album and song queries, provides information about songs.

  • Song Download Location

    Given a songID (as provided by Song Search), provides links to various providers of that song on the Internet.

Rate Limit

Yahoo! Audio Search Web Services are limited to 5,000 queries per API per IP per day. See information on rate limiting and our Usage Policy to learn about acceptable uses and how to request additional queries.
