Contextually

Users experience your application as part of their regular mail flow. The email message comes in, your app is applied against it and voilá, your recipient sees your dynamically enhanced message. Contextually-applied apps are only available within the new Yahoo! Mail Beta.

For example, Yahoo! developed an application that enhances photo viewing. Now you can view photo slideshows, inline videos and more right from within Yahoo! Mail when our application detects this type of content.

Via the Application List

The applications list is located on the lower left hand side of Yahoo! Mail. Installed applications that aren’t strictly contextual get an icon in the application list. Yahoo! Mail comes preinstalled with applications from Yahoo! and third-party developers that let you:

• Easily and securely send files up to 100MB per email.
• Organize messages — newsletters, coupons, promotions, receipts, etc into folders — leaving email from real people in your Inbox.
• Edit, enhance, organize, and share photos directly from within Yahoo! Mail.

Via the Application Gallery

Yahoo! Mail users can visit the application gallery to install applications that didn’t come preinstalled. Access the gallery by clicking the icon next to the application list.

• Upgrade your Yahoo! Mail account to the latest version of Yahoo! Mail by visiting http://features.mail.yahoo.com/ and clicking “Try it Now.”
• Check out the enhanced photo and video viewing capabilities by viewing an email in Yahoo! Mail that contains attached JPGs, a link to a web album on Flickr.com or Picasaweb.com, or a link to a YouTube video.
• Familiarize yourself with how Yahoo! Mail Applications work by using one of the applications in the lower left hand corner of your Yahoo! Mail or in the Yahoo! Mail Applications Gallery.
