They see you hackin’, they hatin’. It’s just another day in the life of a Rockstar. Rockstar don’t settle for less than complete, utter glory! You bend the rules. You think out of the box. You art on your devices and you make others look like complete losers with your creativity.
Join Yahoo! Koprol this summer to become the ultimate coding artist there is out there and be celebrated for your brilliance!
Hack & Roll is a virtual hacking competition that is based in two locations, Philippines and Indonesia. Bands of hackers are given 3 weeks and access to the unreleased Koprol API to do their magic. To celebrate the awesomeness of all participating hackers, Yahoo! Koprol will be holding a party where all hackers who have participated are invited to come!
We’ll announce the top 3 winners of the competition at the party so make sure you book those dates in your calendar. The party will fall in between 8th and 12th of August and will be held concurrently in both Manila and Jakarta. We will be updating you on the actual date and location real soon (real real soon).
To turn it up to eleven, we’ll be throwing in some capital A to awesomeness by giving not only glory, but cool gizmos to the top 3 winning teams of each country.
You need a team of at most 4 people, an idea of what your band would like to do with Koprol API (which we will be releasing to you once your idea is approved), a computer (duhh) an internet connection (duhh), electricity (duhh) and some food and drinks to survive. Shower is optional.
To participate, click here to go to the submission form to sign up! The closing date for submission of ideas is 15 July 2011, 2359 Jakarta Time / 16 July 2011, 0059 Manila Time.
We will take a week to go through the submissions and select those that we think are interesting. Thereafter, we’ll notify the selected teams and release our API and you’ll be given 3 weeks to code.
Although the party will be held in Indonesia and Philippines, anyone in the world can sign up to be a Hack&Roll Rockstar. However, do take note that you’ll have to be there (at whichever location you signed up for and written under “Hack Description”) at the party or you’ll forfeit your victory (and of course, your prize) if you do win.
Do follow the business profile @hackandroll on Koprol. Should you have any difficulties (Rockstar coders wielding keyboards and coding with The Force? We doubt so) with technical issues or with the API, direct your queries to @hackandroll. Our awesome admin will jump in to help. Besides, the entire Koprol community can see what you’re facing and can chip in too!
We will release the API by 25 July 2011 after we’ve gone through the submissions. Don’t worry, we will notify you on that!
(This is absolutely not compulsory and will not affect our judgement) You can use Koprol API with other Yahoo! Product’s API for your hack too! For example, Koprol API with Flickr API to create a location-based image hack or Koprol API with Yahoo! Messenger API. The API for other Yahoo! properties can be found at http://developer.yahoo.com/everything.html
You will be given 3 weeks to compose and cast your spells. After you’ve finished your hack and you’re satisfied with everything, go back to your Hack Profile on http://developer.yahoo.comand under “My Projects” click on that particular Hack Profile to add your Hack URL. Do email the URL of your hack to thomasdk@yahoo-inc.com too. We will download your hack from there to test.
Sorry =( You will have to host the hacks yourself.
You have to update your Hack Profile before 2359 on 12 August 2011, Jakarta Time / 0059 on 13 August 2011, Manila Time. Hack accounts will be frozen after that and you will not be able to update your Hack Profile.
