Plans for libraries other than PHP?

Hi,

Congrats on the launch, this looks really interesting.

I especially congratulate you on choosing to use open technologies even when they are controlled by other parties that might be considered competitors (OpenSocial, Caja etc.). I take this as a really good sign that Yahoo is approaching this with a real spirit of openness.

To my question - I know that one can fairly easily use any language since it's all just OAuth / OpenSocial, however nonetheless, it's always easier when a dedicated library is available. I don't want to go to the effort of building an API for myself if Yahoo is about to release one. So can we expect that (for example) a Java library will be available in due course? (other languages are of interest too, but Java certainly is of the most interest to me since it opens the way for all the dynamic languages that can be deployed on the JVM to follow).

Cheers & congrats!

Simon.

  • Hi Simon - thanks for your message and your question. We are currently working on a Java SDK - it should release in the near future but I don't have a date for you on that yet. We're also looking at creating SDKs for other languages and of course it's likely we'll see some SDKs emerge from the community as well.

    Best,
    Chris

    Chris,

Do you have any more information about the Java SDK? Will the Java SDK be open source?

  • The source of our SDKs is available and distributed with the rest of the kit. I can't see any reason why the Java SDK would be any different.
