UI Improvement: Subcategories Count and Visual Identity

Hi,

I'm having problems making distinction between a category and a pattern page.
This is a patterns collection so I would like to suggest the following improvement:

For example, if you are on this page:
http://developer.yahoo.com/ypatterns/social/people/

The text is stating "Patterns in this Category", but those entries are not actually patterns, but subcategories of patterns.

You should represent the inclusion by having the number of items contained written beside the title, something like: "Identity (2)" - this way you know how rich is the category and if it's worth entering it, and also you know that it's actually a "folder" and not a pattern.

The count is not enough, but would be better than the current implementation. Another suggestion is to visual make a distinction between a category and a pattern, with a proper icon or with another presentation style.

Thanks,
Ecaterina

Yes, Great catch! Thanks. The label suggests that a category contains patterns but of course some of our categories contain other categories, as you point out.

You're recommending putting the (2) next to the category name below the thumbnail? Just want to make sure I'm getting the suggestion right.

That's another good idea. I'll take this to the visual designers on my team and work out a solution. Thanks for the feedback.
