Firefox Crash

Hi all,

I'm running into an issue working with BP, or even browsing using it. Firefox 3.0.5 gets into a bad state and hangs, slowly leaking memory after files are dropped on a BP drag & drop control. This happens consistently on all of the demos (http://browserplus.yahoo.com/developer/web/code/full_uploader_demo/run.html) as well as my own development environment. I've tried it with all other Firefox extensions disabled to no avail. IE works fine.

Any idea if this is a known issue or some kind of environmental thing I might be able to work around?

  • Also, it's BP version 2.1.14, and I just sent in a bug report via the tool. Yeesh, I don't usually talk to myself this much, I swear.

Got it, ffx 3.0.5, xp sp2, drag and drop, hang & leak. I've added a ticket, and we've already got a couple drag and drop fixes set up for the next release. I'll post more information here when we investigate the problem.

  • Thanks for your help. If it helps you narrow it down, it seems to have something to do with the overflow:auto on the container div. I can make this happen 100% of the time by dragging enough files to make it scroll, then scrolling to the bottom. It hangs immediately. Happy hunting!

    Lloyd,

any news on that? I have an issue with BrowserPlus! 2.2.0 running in Firefox 3. Everytime a user scrolls with the mouse wheel on a BP+Uploader enabled page, Firefox hangs and starts to use loads of memory and cpu. Pages without BP work like a charm.

    Best regards,
    Oliver

    awesome find oliver,

I can reproduce this problem 100% of the time on ffx 3 winxp sp3.

I find that if I click firefox out of focus, it returns down to normal cpu consumption. if I leave it in focus, the 100% cpu usage continues forever. Do you notice this as well?

will keep you posted with what I find... This appears preliminarily to be inside firefox, but I'll dig a bunch more before pointing fingers.
