Can't install BP

Dear all,

On Windows XP, I can't install BP on IE7, or FF3.

Visiting http://browserplus.yahoo.com/install/

IE7:
- JS Error: 'BrowserPlus' is undefined

FF2:
- Nothing, no error, but the cyan box on the right is empty.

What do you thinks is wrong?

  • Hi Ahmed,

Have you tried checking out the "trouble shooting" panel in the BrowserPlus Config Panel? This is a new tool in 2.1.6:

Program Files -> Yahoo! BrowserPlus -> Configuration Panel.

If this is not present, it suggests you have 2.0.6 installed. We've had some upgrade problems from 2.0.6 to 2.1.6, which should be resolved now, so IF you have 2.0.6 installed you could always try uninstalling from add/remove programs, and then visiting the install page again.

Look forward to hearing if any of this resolves your problem,

    Dear Lloyd,

I just recently heard about BP, so I don't have any previous version.

cool, that narrows it. did you find the config panel? you can try restarting browserplus directly from that tool, and if the problem persists you can send us a bug report.

On the page under "http://browserplus.yahoo.com/install/" there is an error in the code used to show the different links.

For some reason for me under FF, IE6 and Chrome I only get a javascript error about not having BrowserPlus.

I recommend that by default you show a user the "statusNotInstalled" html panel so worst case the user gets to see the download. At the moment they see nothing.

On further inspection it is the file:
    http://bp.yahooapis.com/2.1.7/browserplus-min.js

it's missing and hence most of the site is having this issue.

this is the second report I've heard. Where approximately are you physically located (country or state is enough). This will help us track it down.

thanks so much for diagnosing this!

  • Trying to fetch http://bp.yahooapis.com/2.1.7/browserplus-min.js, I get this:

    Invalid URL
The requested URL "/2.1.7/browserplus-min.js", is invalid.
    Reference #9.1d081160.1226519900.0

Surely, now that your launch party is over, there should be someone available to copy that file to your server.

We're working now with the folks who administer the content delivery network.

Where are you geographically located approximately so we figure out what server you're getting routed to?

  • We had a problem with our CDN configuration in some regions. Fix made, but it will take a few hours to propagate.

    Cheers,

    Thanks.

finally, if you still have trouble accessing these files in a couple of hours, please complain here loudly. Our ops has said they'll be able to respond even quicker with your (public) ip and the host that bp.yahooapis.com resolves to for you.

I shall now cease to quadruple post. :)lloyd
