Placemaker may be used to process up to 50,000 documents a day. If you exceed this limit you will be blocked from making any more requests for up to 24 hours. It looks like your IP address has sent more than 100,000 requests recently, which is why some of your requests are returning with 999 status.

Remember that Placemaker may only be used for non-commercial use. If you are planning to make money with your application, that is a commerical use.

  • Dear Eddie,

    Our apologies for this.

Can you please help us with this. We are only geocoding upto 5000 requests and thats all.

But apparently our Geocoder still returns 999... This is really creating problems for us...

We even tried with 122.170.15.133 and started getting 999 error just after 300 - 500 requests..

Can you please look into this? Is there a counter reset or something?

I look forward to your help.

    Thanks,
    Vishal

  • Dear Eddie,

We are thinking of a free and a commercial use.

We are still working on it...

If we decide to use Placemaker for the commercial application how can we get commercial usage permission for it?

Can you please send me information of costs and way to go about it on vishal.agarwal@spatialideas.com

    Thanks,
    Vishal

  • Hi Eddie,

Please do get back to us at the earliest as we have several options for GeoCoding and would like to know what is the most economically suitable option as we are only going to need a maximum of 5000 requests a day.

What commercial options are available for PlaceMaker if any?

    Thanks,
    Vishal

  • Dear Eddie,

We have not heard from you for last few days and our Server is not being able to geocode at all.

We have decided to move away from yahoo entirely and use other open source technologies.

    Thanks for your help.

I'm sorry that you have had problems accessing the Placemaker Web Service. Perhaps the request rate (requests per second) was too high and interpreted as abuse. If you can provide an example or two of your requests, I can investigate this issue.

I noticed that you refer to Placemaker as a geocoder. Placemaker is a place extraction service and not a true geocoder. We offer PlaceFinder ( http://developer.yahoo.com/geo/placefinder ) for your geocoding needs. I am also interested in the open source technology you switched to. Most other publicly available geocoding services use lower quality address data and will not give good results like PlaceFinder.
