Managing Links and Content

Hey,
I feel like I've been looking high and low for an answer to a very simple question. So, maybe someone here could help me out. Back when I started doing web design 8 or 10 years ago, we used Dynamic PHP includes. These were fantastic for small business/personal websites. The problem is that I am still using these today. I also have a growing number people asking me to design web sites for them, and less and less time for maintaining the growing sites already using this scheme. I have considered content management systems, but you loose so much control (my outsiders perspective).

So, what do you use?
