Domain verification doesn't work

sylove23 Dec 2008 4:18 AM
Hi forks,

I have two php hosting account, one has been successfully verified though it does not support php/curl, and the other supports php/curl; while I trying to create an oAuth account that supports website, I have an error "Domain Verification Failed."

The latter site's address is "http://www.telecafe.net84.net" and verification address is "http://www.telecafe.net84.net/BKAQ2U9Dcj0YXVqfZp.ZMw--.html" but cannot proceed.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The problem you are having is related to the extra information you are getting in the file. It seems like your hosting company is adding some extra scripts and tags.

Since it's not just the key in the file our system is not reading it correctly. We are going to look at updating our systems to recognizes keys in a file with additional HTML in it but that won't happen now until the new year. Check back in January and hopefully we can get a fix out for you as soon as possible.

If you want us to email you back please fill in the contact form and we'll go ahead and send you an email when you can verify your domain with the new system.

Hi Tom. I'm having the same problem with obtaining a key and have made certain the file name and contents are exact. Any update on this? Is there another way to obtain a key?
sh1mmer5 Feb 2009 3:09 PM
I'm happy to help you on a case by case basis although it would be great if you could refrain from the profanity. It's not helping anyone.

We will have an update on this system in the future but currently I can only help with your individual problems.

If you want to paste you verification file url and I can take a look and let you know of any problems I spot.

Thanks,

Would be great to get an update on this. My (yahoo provided) web hosting is adding the extra HTML comments and scripts on the response, which means i cant verify my domain with YDN.

Can't you just look a the first line of the response? Or just strip the tags from the response?

Thanks.

Hi wilf,

I'm looking over the content of this thread just to get up to speed on the issue here. I'll do what I can to help you guys out here. Just so that I'm sure what's happening, when you create an OAuth application from developer.yahoo.com/dashboard it asks you to create a file to verify the domain. You add the content to the file and this is where it is failing because there is extra content being added to the file?

Can you please post the url to the verification file so that I can take a look please (or dump the contents)? If I can see the extra content that is being added I should be able to poll the required groups to see what is happening, what you may be able to do to bypass this, and / or what we can do to fix the verification stage.

Thanks.

Hi,

I am getting the same domain verification failed issue, and this was the case 2 months ago. I have verified using my browser and view source to make sure my hosting company is not adding additional content. another data point that my hosting company is not adding additional content is that when I went through the same steps for bbauth id, it was able to verify using the same steps with the same hosting company.

Here's the URL I use with the file and content at that time. Please let me know what is wrong or what workaround I have.

Hi Michael,

I'm looking into this issue but have a question for you. When you were creating your OAuth application and it asked you to for the application url and domain:

- Was the link to the application url under http://app1.88pebbles.com (e.g. http://app1.88pebbles.com/myApp.php)?
- Was the domain URL http://app1.88pebbles.com or http://88pebbles.com?

Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your response.

App URL entered: http://app1.88pebbles.com/yostest.php
domain entered: http://app1.88pebbles.com/

I'm curious why is domain verification for oauth app more difficult than that for bbauth app or site explorer submission? Isn't this step simply to prove ownership of domain?

Thanks,
Michael

I haven't heard anything back yet - I'll escalate this further to see if I can get an answer for you. I've spoke with another engineer on the issue and there may be a few workarounds for this so that you can get unblocked. Before I give you those details I want to verify that what I'm going to tell you works. Please stay tuned...I'll update when I have those details.

Alright found out some information...but first let's try something. I have the suspicion that if you use the following to try to verify your domain it may work:
APP URL: http://www.app1.88pebbles.com/yostest.php
DOMAIN URL: http://www.app1.88pebbles.com

If that works I will not be surprised...but at least it'll get you to the next step. Another alternative to get you started on the development is to create a desktop application. This will give you keys and skip the domain verification. Once you do that you're going to have to specify an empty string for the callback when you initialize your 3-legged OAuth session

CODE
$yahoo_session = YahooSession::requireSession(API_KEY, SHARED_SECRET, "", "");

The problem with that is you will lose the callback to your domain so once a user authorizes your application it will not automatically forward them back. This is definitely not an official Yahoo! fix or workaround, and I just expose this so that you can begin development until the fix is put in place.

Speaking of the fix...I've discovered that there is a fix in place that's supposed to be coming for this. The fix is, unfortunately, at least a few months out.

That's probably the best I can offer at the current time. I hope one of these solutions is adequate for your needs.

Hi wawawa3wa,

Please see my previous post and give that first suggestion a try (http://developer.yahoo.net/forum/index.php...art=0#entry3353). If the information in there doesn't solve the issue (or at least get you into development) we will probably have to wait for the fix to be released.

Hi Jon,

Sorry for the long delay, as I had a hard time finding this thread in the forum again, and there's no notification when I get a response. Is there a better way to get back to the thread I posted question on, and get notified when my question gets a reply?

Anyway, I'll give you suggestion a try, and thanks for your help in this. I'll get back to you on the result.

I had the same problem, it seems that domain verification only works if your verification file is 0 bytes.
When you create it with an editor, it's likely to not be 0 bytes, so use 'touch' on linux and you'll be fine.
