Posted by Joshua

I am new to this OAuth stuff, and I have been trying to just experiment with the API to see what it yields before I go much farther down this path. I wish to form a single string that could just be pasted into a browser address bar and contains all the necessary info to get results for say: "Sports" on <gamefly.com></gamefly.com>

I have found this oddly difficult due to a complete lack of examples to interact with the BOSS API in this fashion:http://yboss.yahooapis.com/ysearch/limitedweb?q=sports&sites=gamefly.com&start=0&format=xml&api_key=[My Consumer Key]

In my nave world this should be returning an xml file with 50 search results. What am I missing? It either can't do this like some API's I have seen or I am just hitting some form of red tape here. Any help would be appreciated.

When one sets up an oAuth project, it points to your live website, which makes sense.The callback sends the Oauth Token and the Oauth verifier to the live website, which then sends another token back to Yahoo.

But I would like to develop and test it ideally in my development environment. To achieve this I guess that I would need to set up IIS and serve the website from my development computer, as well as supplying a fixed IP as my project domain. This seems a bit convoluted.Is there a recommended way of developing and testing an Oauth setup?

Thanks

Hello,

Boss Geo service works inconsistently for me. When I search by ZIP (location=78682) it works fine.
I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to OAuth authorize a Yahoo user who has created an account with Google or Facebook via OpenID. Here's my code I'm using Signpost:

OAuthConsumer consumer = new CommonsHttpOAuthConsumer(CONSUMER_KEY, CONSUMER_SECRET);OAuthProvider provider = new CommonsHttpOAuthProvider(    "https://api.login.yahoo.com/oauth/v2/get_request_token",    "https://api.login.yahoo.com/oauth/v2/get_token",    "https://api.login.yahoo.com/oauth/v2/request_auth");

The web form I'm provided with doesn't include the options to authenticate via Facebook or Google. However, if I authenticate with Google or Facebook prior to visiting the auth URL things works correctly. I can't imagine that this would be impossible. The difficulty from a User perspective is that now that Yahoo has allowed users to use Google/Facebook (sign-in) they have introduced an interesting problem.

OK, I found a workaround. I was never able to get the Request Token without getting a 401....But I didn't need one at all! I used just the consumerKey and ConsumerSecret.

static void Main(string[] args)    {        var oAuth = new OAuthBase();        var consumerKey = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["oauth_consumer_key"];        var consumerSecret = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["oauth_consumer_secret"];        var nonce = oAuth.GenerateNonce();        var timeStamp = oAuth.GenerateTimeStamp();        string root = "http://yboss.yahooapis.com/geo/placefinder?callback=json2";        string query = "&q=701+first+avenue+sunnnyvale";        var uri = new Uri(root + query);        string signed_url, param;        var signature = oAuth.GenerateSignature(uri, consumerKey,                        consumerSecret, string.Empty, string.Empty, "GET", timeStamp, nonce,                        OAuthBase.SignatureTypes.HMACSHA1, out signed_url, out param);        var request = WebRequest.Create(string.Format("{0}?{1}&oauth_signature={2}",                                        signed_url, param, signature));        var resultString = "";        using (StreamReader read = new StreamReader(request.GetResponse().GetResponseStream(), true))        {            resultString = read.ReadToEnd();        }        Console.WriteLine(resultString);        Console.WriteLine("Press any key to stop...");        Console.ReadKey();    }}

And...we have data!

                      87         37.416599         -122.026009          [...]

Struggling in vain to get that dang Request Token cost me half a day of wasted effort.
Hi,

We have an application where we're allowing users to sign in using their Yahoo account. I'm noticing a problem where sign in doesn't seem to be working for users with older accounts. They click 'Sign in' from our site, provide their Yahoo credentials and give permissions to our application, but when they are redirected back to our site they are not signed in. If we try with a more recent account this isn't a problem. This seems to be a problem with older accounts that people haven't used in a while.

Is this a known problem? Is there a way around this?

Thanks
