Side by side error when installing YM 11 on Windows 7 64bit SOLUTION!

I was getting an install error while trying to install WM 11 on my Windows 7 64bit machine and I found a fix action and thought I would share.

Here is the error from event viewer:

Activation context generation failed for "C:\PROGRA~2\Yahoo!\MESSEN~1\YCPFoundation.dll". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.5592" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

Here is the pop up error:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. 
Please see the application event log for more detail"


Here is the fix:

1 - Uninstall Yahoo messenger
2 - Install the Microsoft Visual C++ packager FOR WINDOWS 7
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=2092
3 - Restart... No really restart your computer!
4 - Re-install Yahoo Messenger 11
5 - Enjoy all of the benefits of YM11 on Windows 7 64bit

  • c:\windows\system32\igd10umd32.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error.try installing the program again using
    the orginalinstallation media or contact your system administrator or the softwear vendor for support

  • Had this problem too, but the procedure that William provided did not work for me. I tried it several times in every possible scenario I could think off, but still none of then worked. I spent a whole day just trying to resolve this issue. SO FRUSTRATING!

    Last resort that worked for me was using an old version of YM i got from http://www.oldapps.com/. I used YM9.0.0.2162. Good thing there are web sited like OldApps that provided a full version of YM9 because the Online YM9 installer is obsolete.

    Thanks OldApps! Now I can "Enjoy all of the benefits of YM9 on Windows 7 64bit!"   LOL

  • I FOUND SOMETHING WORKS.  I'VE BEEN HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM: YAHOO MESSENGER INSTALL UNSUCCESSFUL!  I TRIED
    EVERYTHING.  SO AS A LAST RESORT,  I TRIED TO INSTALL IN ON MY "EXTERANL HARD DRIVE" AND NOW IT "WORKS"!!!
    IT'S NOT WHAT I WANTED BUT IT'S WORKING ON MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE.  WHEN INSTALLING YOU MIGHT GET THE OPTION OF "IGNOR, ABORT, OR RETRY", JUST KEEP CLICKING ON THE "IGNOR ICON".
