Video Playback bitrate clarification

Folks-

Just wanted to clarify if the engine allows for playback of VBR videos as well as CBR videos. Specifically, we have constant quality videos we are trying to get working through the simulators with mixed results. (The video will play about 10% of the time through the Vizio simulator (1.0.0)) Audio will work, but black screen for the mp4 video.

  • The WDK is not even remotely an accurate test bed in regards to video format compatibility. It's so far off in fact, it's essentially a waste of time to attempt to test different streams in the WDK. With respect to video, use the WDK to test your visual UI layout when in fullscreen state playing video and then use a TV for testing playback compatibility.

I can understand that. So just to verify, there is no restrictions on the Yahoo engine for playback bitrate (constant versus variable). Is it dependent on the manufacture? Meaning will Vizio act differently then LG?

Figured I'd answer my own question... from reading other posts, it look like video playback is OEM dependent, and VBR videos should be supported, but YMMV; check how it works with a functioning TV rather then the simulator. Simulator is mostly useful for UI layout, etc... not video playback.
