  • The documentation Yahoo! provides for deploying widgets to TV's before they have passed Yahoo! QA is not available online, but is installed as part of the WDK. I found the document finally in

    /usr/local/share/WDK/doc/YWE_Developer_Guide.pdf

    There are 3 options

    * Use an OEM device with special interfaces
    * Start the QA process with Yahoo, and manually enable certain people to install it
    * Finish the Yahoo! QA process and make the widget available to the world

  • You do not have to start the QA process with Yahoo! to upload your widget for testing.

Simply upload it to the Developer Gallery and add the testing information for your device - you do not need Yahoo! approval to test on any of your own devices.

  • Thank you for that clarification. We got our widget running this evening on a vizio tv. Yay for us! Now my manager has an even bigger list of bugs for me to fix. *grin*

  • We always cringe at that first release point. Good luck!!!

If you want, take a look at our developer resources we provide for free to all developers. We provide tools for debugging widgets while on TV devices and a great set of interaction tracking tools that are easily implemented in your applications.

All of the documentation included in the WDK is online (and more up-to-date) - this particular section is online here:

    http://developer.yahoo.com/connectedtv/ins...ry_Service.html

Other documentation is linked from here:

    Hope this helps,

  • I had a very hard time finding documentation for the process, and the document a co-worker found it in was not available on the web site (though other more detailed and more correct docs seem to be.) In retrospect I suppose it was the chapter title

Chapter 5. Submitting to the Widget Gallery Service

    and the first major heading

Overview of the Widget Approval Process

that led me to searching elsewhere for my answer. See I was *not* interested in how to get Yahoo to OK my app at that point, only interested in how to test my app on a real device. Blame me for being in too much of a rush to read all the docs closely enough. But thank you for your pointers!

    Hello jsl4tv!
We have a problem here in Brazil because everybody from Vizio (US) or Sony tell us that's impossible to test our widgets on their TVS. We really think they aren't well informed about that. So you got it to test using Developer's Mode out of US, right? What TV model are you using? We intend to buy some models to test but want to be assure we can do that! Thanks by attention!

    Henrique Foca,

I'm not WidgetRealm, but I'd really recommend buying both of the TVs I mentioned in this post: http://developer.yahoo.net/forum/index.php...ost&p=18019

  • We have two models that we use for testing currently and two more we are looking at.

    Using Currently:
2009 LG 42LH50 - not recommended, first device we bought... We are still waiting on the 1.3 updated to push out to this device.
2010 VIZIO M220NV - It is great demo TV. Small, has WIFI, and doubles small stand-bye TV.

Soon to be in our grasp! :D 2010 Sony KDL-40W5100
