Deploy and enjoy my Widgets on my TV

Hello

I'm just starting to read the documentation of the WDK and this forum posts.

A question to answer: If I program my own and personal widgets, can I enjoy it onto my own TV out of the official Yahoo validation circuit?

Thanks a lot.

  • Yes you can definitely do that. All you need to go into the Widget Gallery settings page and you can enable "Developer Mode". This mode serves two purposes:

1.) Allow developers to test their widgets before pushing to Yahoo! QA

2.) Allow developers to install widgets for their own personal usage

The process is outlined in the documentation, just realize that purpose #2 is supported despite it being documented from the perspective of #1.

I´m an experienced Java programmer and I would like to develope my own widgets, I´m thinking on email client, web search...

Are there any web place where developers share theirs widgets to others ?

Thanks and excuse my bad english

You don't share your widgets through a website. Instead you widget would be shared using the "Widget Gallery" widget on the TV's.

You can allow your widget to be viewable on selected TV's by uploading using the following url: http://gallery.tv.widgets.yahoo.com/publisher/. The entire process is outlined on pg 87 of the latest documentation.

After you upload your widget you can specify a Yahoo username, and TV codes to only allow certain TV's access to download your widget.

  • Raul,

Did you mean as Steve mentioned, or did you mean a place where developers share test widgets and samples they wrote? If it's the later, then there has been a little bit of this on the forums already in the General category, but it's something I would love to cultivate further. I'd be excited to see people sharing widgets code on something like Github or Google Code and building a community around sharing components people developed.

Try starting with "Deploying Widget Software":

    Hope this helps,

    Raul,

I, too am frustrated by the slow official deployment of many widgets on platforms like LG for example, that still has only the initial yahoo widgets deployed :(Sorin

and it is ridiculous to wait a year for LG to approve some widgets like Showtime, e-Bay, etc.

Welcome to the world of CE, especially with regards to TV manufacturers.
