coverage in data dump versus coverage in web service

Hi,

In the documentation, it states that "Yahoo! GeoPlanet provides information for about six million named places globally."

In the data dump geoplanet_places_7.4.1.tsv, there are around 5.33 million places. My question is, are all the places available through the web service also described in the data dump? If not, what is missing?

Thanks a lot,
sherosi

The number of places cited in the GeoPlanet documentation is slightly exaggerated. The number of places known to GeoPlanet is the same as the number of places in GeoPlanet Data. There are no places missing from either product. Please note that GeoPlanet supports both active WOEIDs (found in geoplanet_places_7.4.1.tsv) and deleted WOEIDs (found in geoplanet_changes_7.4.1.tsv).
