:unsure: two weoid about one same place

:unsure:this two weoid is same place: 2172736, 26198373

you can test use: http://where.yahooapis.com/v1/place/[id]?appid=[yourappidhere]

and I use http://where.yahooapis.com/v1/place/234247...ount=455?appid=[yourappidhere]
can only get the place weoid : 26198373

the difference between 2172736 and 26198373 is placeTypeName, one is Prefecture, the other is WOE_TOWN

I find only WOE_TOWN weoid can use in http://weather.yahooapis.com/forecastrss?w=2172736

I don't know how to get 2172736 in a common method, like http://where.yahooapis.com/v1/place/234247...ount=455?appid=[yourappidhere]

  • While the name is the same, these are two different places in the hierarchy which share the same name. Compare the metadata facets of the Town (http://isithackday.com/geoplanet-explorer/index.php?woeid=2172736) vs. the Prefecture (http://isithackday.com/geoplanet-explorer/index.php?woeid=26198373).

  • GeoPlanet was not designed to be used as a data extraction tool. There may be thousands of towns in a country. A better way to get this information may be GeoPlanet Data (see http://developer.yahoo.com/geo/geoplanet/data/). This product contains text files that include information about every place that GeoPlanet knows about. You can extract lists of prefectures/provinces by country, towns by prefecture/province, and suburbs by town from these files.
