I have no problems with video, but it could mearly be a gstreamer problem. Make sure gstreamer is installed (using synaptic or other favorite package manager). You can also try to open up the video you are trying to watch in another video player (ex. Totem) to see if it is a simulator problem or decoder problem.

It seems like it, I have another thread on the general forum and others do not have this problem. Bit strange that on 2 computer it did not work...

You are not alone, I get the same error message on my T43p laptop with Sun VirtualBox and ubuntu 9.10. If I resolve the issue I will let you know.

  • Hey guys,

We have identified the root problem and are working on a solution. The problem is that the same binary can't be used on Ubuntu < 9.10 as the one which can be used on Ubuntu >= 9.10 as there is incompatibilities in gstreamer which is the library we use for video playback.

In the meantime, I would recommend using Ubuntu 9.04 or 8.10 for video playback testing. If you are using a VM, it's super easy to do.

  • Thanks Jeremy! Glad to hear you found the root cause. Best of luck with the fix.

Nice find. The workaround of re-installing the OS for us non-VM folks is a bit cumbersome. Is there a way we can have a patch in the meantime? (e.g. replace the said library?)

    Thanks.

I am working on Ubuntu 9.10. Same problem, same wish. Yahoo should PIN this issues on forum at least. We are wasting time on these issues.

  • I am facing same issue with Ubuntu version 9.10
When I play video it just hangs. On the terminal window I get the message
    >>>>>>GetSystemTVState: attached shared memory

Does anyone know where I can get the patch?

    Thanks
