notifications?

In the user guide it references the use of notifications. It mentions being able to turn notifications on and off in the profile settings. We cannot however find any reference to this functionality in the developer guide or implementation on the emulator or TV.

Can you give us any further information on this?

  • In TV_Widgets_User_Guide_v0.71_20080929.pdf it mentions notifications in a few places:

    1. On Page 8 -

The user interface is composed of the following components:
    • The dock which is displayed when the WIDGETS button is pressed on the remote control
    • Sidebar for providing navigation within a single widget
    • Fullscreen video mode when no widgets are displayed on the screen while video plays
    • Notifications for graphical alerts and messages from the platform and individual widgets
    • Screen-Saver to prevent the screen from going black

    2. Page 24 & 25-

    Notification Settings
Notifications are modeless pop-ups. They are platform user interface components that are transient,
passive, and only stay on the screen for up to 5 seconds. Notifications display information generated by the system. Notifications require no user action before being dismissed and are displayed on top of other graphics or video on the screen. All notifications can be turned on or off via the Settings widget’s
    Notification Settings menu. Change the Notifications toggle button to Off to turn off all notifications;
set the toggle button to On to turn on notifications.

...It then goes on to give an example of how the user can change where notifications appear onscreen. It suggests there is an option under profile settings where the user can configure where on the screen the notifications will appear. --I cannot find this option in profile settings on the emulator or TV.

Can you let me know whether this will be a feature that will be enabled any time in the future?

    Many Thanks.

I thought that was what you were referring to, but I didn't want to assume.

It will be supported sometime in the future, but right now it's not supported.
