I understand that the conventional TV remote makes for a sub-optimal browsing experience, but sometimes you can tolerate that for the convenience of grabbing something quickly while you're watching TV. I use a web-enabled flip-phone for checking my Yahoo mail and if I have something compelling that doesn't translate well to a thumb-sized screen, I get on my laptop to check it out, Sometimes people are willing to settle for sub-optimal. I don't believe this is technically impossible, but it doesn't produce licensing revenue, so Vizio and Yahoo have no use for it. Why don't you just build a browser and let your customers decide if they want to use it?

Here's an idea: Make the web browser for the TV, and I can use my laptop, which is on the same wireless network as the TV, to do the typing and nav needed to access web pages I want to access--like my own. It would be nice to navigate on the web and share the experience with others. Until Y! decides to go that route, it is only fair that you explicitly state in the product description that there's no web browser.

Refer to your TVs manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset. You may need to reinstall some apps after the factory reset. Sorry again for the inconvenience.

I cannot log in to Yahoo on my VIZIO SV422XVT 42-Inch Class XVT Series 240Hz sps LCD VIZIO Internet Apps HDTV. As well I cannot open Tunein Radio, Pandora, Accuweather, etc. However, I can open Netflix and Hulu Plus-- both which I added much later than the other apps. I thought the problem might be that I just moved from DC to Palm Springs, CA, area. But when I called Vizio they alerted me to the problem with Yahoo. Are there fixes I can do to get back app usage?
Thanks!

Gerry,

Here is the resolution for users that are not using any special characters: - Login to Facebook on a laptop, mobile, or iPad. - Go to settings icon (far top right) and click Account Settings. - On the far left column, scroll down to "Apps" and select it. - Edit "Apps you use" and turn "Platform On" (some users will have a default setting of "Off" if you don't allow any 3rdparty apps on Facebook)

This will enable Facebook app to work on the Vizio TV platform.

Elinor

And I would like to thank Elinor for inviting me to bring my issue to Yahoo to see if we could replicate the problem and find its solution. We were successful on both counts.

To those here who like me continued to be frustrated by solutions that turned out not to be solutions, would you please try implementing the instructions Elinor describes above and then report back here about your results? I'm hoping you are all taken care of by this...

I must say, Elinor could not have been any warmer, more gracious, personable, or accommodating than she was during my visit, my rather harsh criticism in this forum notwithstanding. She even gave me some cool Yahoo merchandise on the way out. Thank you again, Elinor, and thanks to John the computer scientist for his expertise.

I hope this solves everyone's FB/Vizio issue. It solved mine...

-Patrick

Hi All,

I would first like to thank Patrick for helping us debug his issue and pinpoint the trouble that has been causing some users.

Here is the resolution for users that are not using any special characters:- Login to Facebook on a laptop, mobile, or iPad.- Go to settings icon (far top right) and click Account Settings.- On the far left column, scroll down to "Apps" and select it.- Edit "Apps you use" and turn "Platform On" (some users will have a default setting of "Off" if you don't allow any 3rdparty apps on Facebook)

This will enable Facebook app to work on the Vizio TV platform.

If you are a user that had issues with the special characters in your password, we are pushing out a new version this week.

Regards,Elinor

In general, browsing the web on a TV is a poor experience, particularly if you only have a TV remote for text and navigation. Using a mouse and keyboard in the living room while watching TV is another good example why this is not the best experience. For these reasons Y! did not create a browser on the TV. We believe bringing content available on the web to the TV via apps is a better experience for the user.

For similar reasons we do not have a email or messenger app for the TV. Text entry using a remote is not the best experience :) Keep in mind that many of the TVs are shipped with a very simple remote. You can imagine responding to a email using up-down-left-right on your remote.

To all here who are still waiting for a solution, please let me report this: Elinor has graciously invited me to come to Yahoo today to try to log on to their engineers' sets so the errors that occur can be captured and error logs can be created. Hopefully this will lead to a solution.

I will report back after the visit, as I assume Elinor will , and hopefully there will be good news.

I give respect to Elinor, as I have been rather loud and vociferous in my criticism in this forum. I meant and stand by everything I said, but for Elinor to extend an invitation after all she's read here was quite surprising, very appreciated, and worthy of respect.
