My mistake, my post was not yet finished.

Again, the terms of use:

vi. store any Results (e.g., map imagery, map data or geocoded location information) from the Service, except (a) for temporary caching of Results to improve the performance of Your Offering, but only for so long as reasonably necessary; or (b) to support a core business function of Your Offering. You may not use these exceptions if You are storing or caching the Results for the purpose or effect of avoiding, reducing, or distorting the number of queries made, or Query Fees owed to Yahoo!.

I do not want to use this exception to avoid queries, but there is no other way to find the nearby places than storing the coordinates and make a surrounding search, e.g. by Postgis.

Can somebody please clearify if this would be ok or if this is not allowed?

In short: Address to coordinates geocoding - marker shown on map - user may move marker - save place will store markers coordinates - coordinates required for finding nearby places.

Best regards,Sebastian

Hi there,

I want to create a webapplication, where a user can add a place (e.g. restaurant, cinema, etc.) and add some additional informations to this place.

When adding the place, the user must also enter the places address. After the address has been entered, the user views the places position as a marker on a map (address is being geocoded). The user may move the marker to the exact position and saves the place.

Is it allowed to save the geocoded coordinates in my database if one of my core business functions is a surrounding search for places? I need these coordinates to find nearby places.

The terms of use say:

vi. store any Results (e.g., map imagery, map data or geocoded location information) from the Service, except (a) for temporary caching of Results to improve the performance of Your Offering, but only for so long as reasonably necessary; or (b) to support a core business function of Your Offering.
Thanks A,

As a solution to this, we're having a closer look at Weather Underground: http://www.wunderground.com/weather/api/d/docs. They have an API that has a free plan, alongside a WordPress plugin that handles caching to keep the requests down. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see if anyone has a solution to get Yahoo back to delivering 5-day forecasts before we drop too many hours to fixing our client's site, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks to everyone that's posted!

I've done some hunting around too since this crashed a widget on our site. I think it could be something to do with what this guy says on this post: http://soup.metwit.com/post/47181933854/an-alternative-to-yahoo-weather-api

I also found some talk of yahoo changing what they're actually giving away in their free API and that there might be a paid for version coming out.

If I find out any more I'll post it on here! Please do the same if you find anything

I've done some hunting and this is the only location I've been able to find where someone can confirm the behavior we're seeing. Does anyone know where we could go for official word from Yahoo Dev that they've cut back on the number of available days in the forecast? Does Yahoo officially reply on these forums?

Hi Juan,

We're all of a sudden seeing the same issue. Yesterday a client's test site was displaying a 5-day forecast. We launched yesterday afternoon and today we're only getting the 2-day forecast. If you discover what it is please post here, we'll do the same!
