Search API commercial use

Hi,

I'm working on a mobile application which returns some data from an web API. The information is limited, so I'd like to give the user links to some more information about what's been returned by hooking up a web search API. The problem is the application will be funded by advertising thus violating the ToU for Yahoo! Search.

Is there a commercial version I could use? What are the costs? Who should I contact?

Thanks

Glenn

BTW I did try sending an email on another similiar matter, but I just got the automated response.

  • Hi Glenn,

We've announced the way our BOSS commercialization will work on http://developer.yahoo.com/search/boss/fees.html. While this doesn't have a numerical $ figure yet you'll soon be able to use the search API with your own advertising.

Right now we aren't able to offer another solution that will allow you to put advertising on your result page.

    Thanks, I'll take a look.

You mention advertising. Will your advertising delivery system support embedding in mobile applications?

    Thanks.

  • We don't provide an advertising platform for BOSS at this time, and we don't allow advertising yet. When the new fee structure is in place you will be able to monitize your own platform using whichever advertising technology you prefer.

Yahoo! Blueprint our cross-device mobile web solution has a couple of ways that you can use to include your advertising. The Display Ad Tag and the Text Ad Tag.

If you are thinking of doing any mobile web site development I'd highly recommend looking at Blueprint because it allows you to develop one site that works on a huge range of handsets from many different manufacturers.
