Rate Limits

Hi Sean and Shane, I see rate limits posted for YQL on the front page for this API. Are there any rate limits for the Fantasy Sports API?

Thanks

  • There are, somewhere in our Fantasy specific TOS, but I think that we still might not have that posted and I'm not sure how much detail they really go into. As of right now, I think we're employing the "reasonable person" standard, ie, please don't break our machines by spamming us with dozens of requests per minute. You should probably stay in the same vicinity as the limits for the YQL interface, so try to utilize the flexibility of services to minimize the number of requests you need to make. Help us help you. :PIf there are any use cases that you're unsure about, feel free to ask. I generally didn't see anything about Fantasy Sports as necessitating a high volume of service requests, but I'd be curious what you're trying to do that would prove me wrong.

  • But, if you guys could provide an API for live game stats for actual games, that would be great.

Like Bills vs Dolphins. Then I can get that API data and figure out the fantasy scores myself based on league scoring rules.

  • Thanks for the examples, guys. I still don't really have hard numbers, and I don't know if it's very straightforward for me to figure out exactly how many requests are coming through for a particular app ID (I'm not sure I'm logging all the right information currently to start answering that question). Taking the example Weixi gave...yeah, I think that could actually be pretty frightening if you sustained those numbers. The guidelines for non-commercial use over YQL is 10,000 requests per hour, compared to the 180,000 requests per hour that you'd be aiming to generate. :PRegarding the live stats feed, definitely an interesting idea but hard for us to manage without stepping on the toes of our actual stats provider.

Sean, I'm now making a DB record every time a user makes an API call, so I'll have a really good idea of how much I'm taxing the API. This is only rolled into the latest version, released today, but I think I'll be able to get the majority of users upgraded by Sunday. Let me know if you want me to send you the results or just post it.

    Thanks

    David

Thanks for the advice Sean. I suppose 5 min is reasonable for fantasy football. Good tip in getting league data as a whole and then parsing through it to distribute data to each member. A lot of the users in my site are from the same leagues as other members.

However I really hope those limits are increased as an app developer.

Thanks for making the effort to be nice to our servers. :)(I think! We're still figuring things out on our end, too)

Thanks for making the effort to be nice to our servers. :)I guess I was hoping for more API calls more from a 'peace of mind' standpoint, that's all.
