If the developer can add a menu option to the Vizio Amazon app at the next update iot would be appreciated by many users I believe. the addition should....Add a menu option for the watch-list that is developed on the computer. That way a user of Amazon Prime can select for viewing movies that have already been selected on their computer. Using the computer is much easier than searching or browsing thru up to a 100 pages of Amazon Prime movies.

Posted by Karin

I am doing some compareson between Smart TV platforms way to develop applications and I wonder if Yahoos TV applications only are available in "Full screen" mode? In other words taking up the whole screen. Samsung Smart TV have three different application layouts available, see link: http://www.samsungdforum.com/upload_files/files/guide/data/html/html_2/getting_started/intro_to_samsung_smarttv_apps.html

Full screen, Single-wide application and ticker. This specifyes how much space the application takes up on the screen so the user can for example watch tv while using the application, because the application only takes up a part of the screen.

So can your applications be designed to only take up a part of the screen or all they all shown in full screen mode?I read this pages:http://developer.yahoo.com/connectedtv/devguide/CTV_DG_Video_Viewing_Modes.htmlhttp://developer.yahoo.com/connectedtv/devguide/CTV_DG_Yahoo_Connected_TV_User_Interface.htmlhttp://developer.yahoo.com/connectedtv/quickstart/CTV_QS_Review_the_Sample_TV_App_Files.html

but im not sure if the video viewing mood is only for videos playing inside the application itself or also can represents the broadcast from the TV.

Thanks for helping

The Yahoo! Connected TV platform does allow you to overlay content on the TV broadcast. The Y! CTV platform consists of three states: Dock, Sidebar and fullscreen. Both the dock and sidebar are overplayed on the TV. You may find additional detail in our documentation: http://developer.yahoo.com/connectedtv/devguide/CTV_DG_Yahoo_Connected_TV_User_Interface.html

The fullscreen state takes over the entire screen however, you do not need to use the entire screen in your UI. For example, you may display a small icon on the screen and show the broadcast TV in the background.

Hi Peter,

You posted this a while back, however wanted to inquire. It seems like you were looking into overlaying data on top of a live stream. I'm working to develop overlay technique as well on top of data. I recently attended a 2nd app developers group w/LG Smart TV presenting. The gentlemen shared it was illegal to overlay on top of content / live TV stream. I shared that Yahoo TV has a widget that already does that where you can configure the tool bar to reside top, bottom, left or right side of TV screen. (Dont think LG Smart TV has the Yahoo TV app). In any case have you looked into or know if by developing a app that overlays on top of content / cable broadcast that violates The Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The gentlemen from LG shared that overlay would be in a violation. I found that strange when Yahoo TV tool bar and ESPN score center app does an overlay as well. Please share your thoughts on what you've learned.

Thks,-BP

Hello,

I'm a new developer and want to create a Smart TV / connected TV app, however would like some help on the above question. I attended a meet up group where a LG presenter discussed 2nd screen apps. I asked about a SDK for overlay on top of broadcast and he shared that it was illegal and did not have any. I than shared that GTV has one social eye (third party) and shared that Yahoo TV and ESPN score center app can run along top / bottom / left / right of screen while content is being displayed.

Please help I'm not sure how to pursue my app development with the conflicting info.

Thks

I've searched through the other posts and couldn't quite find an answer... Is there a way to replace the Yahoo image that sits atop of the pop up keyboard, that I've seen in many of the samples, with something else? My widget needs a log in dialog and I'd like to "rebrand" it with my company's logo, but I figure it out? --Thanks!

Posted by SajuP

Yahoo QA reported a defect for my widget related to default view ID. Here is my use case (currently I'm handling it using the code posted above by Vivek).

I have two views, pre-registration-view (home view before the widget is registered with the back end web application) and post-registration-view (home view after the widget is registered with the back end web application).

Basically after the widget is installed and before it is registered using the Register option, I want to display the default view as pre-registration-view. And after it is registered I always want to have the post-registration-view as the default view. Currently I'm handling it in the snippet activate event by checking if it is registered or not and load the appropriate view. This works fine for the normal flow of opening the side bar view from the snippet and appropriate view is displayed.

The issue is when the back button (F10 on simulator) is pressed, irrespective of whether it is registered or not (obviously) whatever default view I had set in the init.js is displayed. For example if I had set the pre-registration-view as the default view, then after registration while on the post-registration-view if I press the back button it displays the pre-registration-view since it is the default view. And if I set the post-registration-view as the default view then before registration if I'm on the pre-registration-view back button will display the post-registration-view which is functionally incorrect.

How can I handle this situation. As I understand from the above post, there is no API to change the default view. Do I need to listen for an event on the back button and load the appropriate view based on the registration status, if that is the case , is there any documentation on how to implement the same.

You may override the styles of the name and description in the about box by adding the following in your widget. Theme.storage.add('AboutBoxView.metadataName', { styles: { width: Theme.keys.sidebar.width - 10, truncation: "end", hOffset: 5, vOffset: 67, fontSize: 26, fontFamily: Theme.fonts.light, color: 'white', KonShadow: '0px -1px black' } }); Theme.storage.add('AboutBoxView.metadataDescription', { styles: { truncation: 'end', width: Theme.keys.sidebar.width - 10, hOffset: 5, fontSize: 14, fontFamily: Theme.fonts.regular, fontWeight: 'bold', color: '#FFFFFF', KonShadow: "0px -1px black" }
}); You can also change many other styles by referring to ~/TVWidgets/Konfabulator-Latest/data/Overlay/Script/Framework/Themes/theme.js, find the style you want to change and include that change in your particular widget.
Thanks, Vivek
