BOSS is Yahoo!'s open search and data services platform. The goal of BOSS is simple: to foster innovation in the search industry. Developers, start-ups, and large Internet companies can use BOSS to build web-scale search products that utilize Yahoo! Search technology and data. By combining your unique assets and ideas with our search technology assets, you can build innovative experiences that delight your users. BOSS is offered with a low flexible usage fee based on the type of queries. You can also get search advertising in the same service to monetize your offerings.
The original Yahoo! Search BOSS opened up Yahoo!'s search infrastructure to enable third parties to build search products using their own data, content, technology, social graph, or other assets.
This original intent has been enhanced and simplified with this version of BOSS API. Some of the features include re-ranking attributes, brand attribution, enhanced oAuth security, and a simplified API.

BOSS developers who sign up for new platform have access to a support form for specific questions relating to issues such as billing, services issues, etc.
BOSS offers developers search technology at internet scale and powers hundreds of millions of queries a day. By combining your unique assets and ideas and content assets, BOSS is the platform for the next generation of search innovation, serving hundreds of millions of users across the Web.
Search APIs are nothing new, but typically they've included rate limits, strict terms of service regarding the re-ordering, blending, and presentation of results, and provided little or no opportunity for monetization. These constraints have limited the innovation and commercial viability of new search solutions.
BOSS is different in that it is a set of open API's with as few rules and limitations as possible. Developers and start-ups now have the technology and infrastructure to build enhanced search solutions that can compete head-to-head with the principals in the search industry.
Use of this service is subject to the BOSS API Terms of Use.
As described here, we are now offering Yahoo! Sponsored Search ads for BOSS. Qualified developers can receive advertising in the same BOSS call as other content. Our partner DDC will work with you to help set your service up. In order to participate, you will need to provide some details about your product, including information about your traffic sources, UI framework, and implementation. Once your product is approved, you will be able to deploy Yahoo! Sponsored Search ads to generate revenue.
Please note that in signing up for the Sponsored Search ad program, you will be entering into a contract with DDC, not Yahoo!, and DDC will handle all ad-related financial payments and support.
